Please does anyone know why my computer's wifi broadband speed is reduced dramatically when my iphone is connected to it by a cable?
Our wifi is rubbish at the best of times - fibre speeds of 18mbps instead of the promised 30 - but when I connect the iphone it reduces to between 2 and 5 mbps.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen and if there is a way of correcting it - or do I just need to remember to unplug the phone!
Thanks

It sounds like your computer is automatically switching to use your iPhone as the Internet connection.
What speeds do you get when you connect your computer to the router via a cable? (iPhone not connected).
WiFi speed is not necessarily your broadband speed.0 -
Just a guess because the hardware details haven't been provided but USB 3.0 interferes with 2.4 Ghz radio including Wifi and Bluetooth.georgiac said:Please does anyone know why my computer's wifi broadband speed is reduced dramatically when my iphone is connected to it by a cable? Our wifi is rubbish at the best of times - fibre speeds of 18mbps instead of the promised 30 - but when I connect the iphone it reduces to between 2 and 5 mbps.I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen and if there is a way of correcting it - or do I just need to remember to unplug the phone! Thanks
If you can provide the phone model / USB port type / Wifi connection frequency (2.4 or 5 Ghz) then the above could be verified as a possible cause.1 -
Make sure you're not using your Iphone's tethering capability when connected to your PC. The setting on the Iphone called Personal Hotspot, turn that off.1
