A company, and any director involved, that does not update director details within 14 days, faces a level 5 fine which is unlimited, so at the magistrate's discretion.

    Doesn't help at all.

There are obvious valid reasons for the information remaining for six years (five in Scotland). However as far as I know it remains indefinitely.
    You mean lawyers like this-

    https://harassmentlawyer.co.uk/online-harassment-advice/clean-up-online-presence-and-harassment

I bet they charge a bit.

I'll login and and change my surname to middle name, see what that does?   Someone said it's a criminal offence to not submit real info to companies house, but I suspect no human checks or questions updates it's all computer done or no one would care and it could be put down to a typing error.  I bet no one has been prosecuted for using middle name as last name.

I just searched my full name and town and my info is not just companies house but -checkcompany.co.uk, find and update company information and brokersnavigate lol.    Even if i change my surname on companies house to middle name, I doubt it will change the info on other sites that have already stolen it.   Luckily i changed my address early on before these data collection companies nicked my info and I'm using the flat's property maintenance company's address instead.   But better late than never for my surname change , I'll do it now.

Just generally, it's all a bit worrying-  there's a website you pay for which gives out addresses - wwww.192.com of people- I believe they get there info from the council who have to record everyone who lives at every address (forget what you call it).   I ticked  not for public viewing when I filled out the form and only filled it out because the woman knocked on my door and a letter threatening prosecution arrived. Hope that tick protects me from normal people finding me.

Other concerns-   I'm gonna sign up for checkatrade and the company name and phone number comes up on google search showing any bad reviews- solution will use separate business number and slightly change company name.   i don't think your name comes up though.

Any criminal activity is searchable.  Luckily I have nothing but it does seem a bit unfair that this should be searchable forever more and affect someone's employability.

    George Orwell was right.

Possibly yes but it doesn't have to be a lawyer unless you need to take legal action to enforce any rights. Initially you just want somebody with expertise at finding what information about you is out there. Some can no doubt be removed just by asking at no cost at all. Other information my be more tricky.

Related, this is why the slowly evolving "privacy laws" are really only accessible to the rich and famous. A bit like suing for libel!

There are plenty of firms that, quite legally, repackage and sell information. Genealogy sites like Ancestry largely offer a convenient "one stop shop" for information that can be tracked down for free from public sources. As you have found there are sites that re-hash Companies House and / or electoral roll information. Again perfectly lawful.

As I said before there is good reason why some information should be in the public domain. Then there is a vast amount of information that people publish about themselves, their family and friends on social media etc. Sometimes they come to regret it but they only have themselves to blame!

If you have serious concerns for your safety you really should be talking to the police.
Probably it won't come to being badly attacked but I dunno what goes on which is unreported in this country.   I may be being a bit paranoid.   Regarding, changing my surname for middle name, would I get in trouble for that?

I just tried to change my name but it said-   "There are warnings in this section"  after I tried to submit the changes.   I shortened my name and that went through.   I might try in a few weeks to just submit it with "warnings in section" still on there anyway.

I tried adding letters and deleting letters to surname.   You surname is what people will use to search for you.   Using my middle name as surname gave that warning sign as well
Well I would check carefully that you are not committing an offence by doing so as you would be, in effect, providing false information.

It may be OK to shorten a forename if that is how you are usually know, e.g. Timothy becoming Tim or maybe even William becoming Bill. However I would be very careful with Mr Jones becoming Mr Smith!

As I keep saying, there must be official ways of dealing with this problem legally if it is as serious as you seem to imply.

Does the lease say that you must agree to be a director of this Ltd company?   I am not a lawyer, but if it does, I would ask the question as to whether it is a legally enforceable part of the lease.  Just because something is in a contract does does not automatically make it enforceable.  It has to comply with what is allowed in a contract under the law.  Legal advice would be needed to go down the road of challenging the legal validity of having to become a director, but if such a challenge was sucessful, there could be a possiblity of you resigning as a director and thus personal information would be deleted from Conpanies House records

It stays on forever, although it might not come up as easily in a search.

Thxs.   Well let's hope shortening my name puts people off finding me.  Let's hope.   Yeah there is an official way of dealing with this but it would cost a lot in time and money.  Let's face it they just want to watch people and make things difficult for you to do anything about it.   It really is Big Brother.    It's also the case that this country doesn't have the resources or time to chase someone who changes their surname through the courts I would suspect and they may just say it was a typing mistake.   So even if it's illegal, lots of things illegal have nothing done about them.   If you can find anyone ever punished for changing their surname to hide themselves online charged I'd love to hear of it.

Looks like I can't change it anyway, as I got that funny comment- "something wrong with your info "  or of similar wording popping up in red.   I'll try to put it through anyhow.   I bet no human actually looks at the updated info at Companies House, it's just done by computers!

Somehow I do not think a dot-com millionaire or Russian oligarch would sign up to such a lease when buying a flat.  The question has to be asked, why should the rest of us be expected to be forced to become a director of a Ltd Company just because we want to buy a flat?

Because that is one of the terms and conditions under which some flats are sold. It is done that way primarily to protect the individual leaseholders / owners from financial liabilities they might otherwise be exposed to if something goes wrong.

It is only an issue for a small minority like the OP who want / need to hide (for whatever reason).

There is also a negative risk in the event of the Ltd Company getting into financial difficulties, namely being a past director of a liquidated company.
