O/S Daily Saturday 6 November 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but temperature has really dropped and air feels cold.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm now going for a shower and DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken goujons, chips and beans for DH. I had fishcakes and veg. DS1 went out for dinner with friends.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted, so I'll be able to have a chilled weekend. Only working 2 and a half days this next week then time off, and I can't wait.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Enjoy your weekend nmlc.
Woke up early today, been reading online news and now wish I hadn’t as it’s all so depressing. Not sure what I will be doing today. I will probably pop up to see the parents, and then do some paperwork. I was looking through the filing drawer yesterday, and the mess ... I have not been filing, I have just been throwing everything in the drawer! So everything came out and put into a black bin bag ready for me to sort through.
Dinner will be toad in the hole with mashed potato, cabbage and carrots.
Take care all.

Morning All
It's dark and blustery out there this morning, there will be waves on the water! Sadly the weather isn't dry enough for the washing to go out so it will have to hang about inside until I get fed up with it and put it in the TD.
The chap came yesterday to adjust the blinds, he was so cheerful and chatty. He also put up the new mirror for me and did take a payment for his time after a bit of a fight. My neighbour had offered to put it up but although he's willing can be a bit slap dash! I've just to put up a couple of pictures and the living room will be finished.
DD and the little one coming over today so I've made a batch of oatie biscuits for the little one, DGS showed her where the goodies are kept so she stands by the drawer in hope, today she'll be lucky.
Sorry you didn't get the job Ruby, let's hope they can come up with something for you.
Hope you had a better night Gers.
Have a good Saturday, take care. XX13 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Enjoy your days off. After a run of bad nights I slept ok last night, though I was exhausted. It's always the same thing, wake up in the small hours and start worrying about things I can do nothing about. Anyway I feel quite restored this morning so hope that I won't be falling asleep on the sofa later.Ruby, I'm so sorry that you didn't get the job you interviewed for, what a disappointment. I hope that something else will come along for you.TA, sounds as if you'll have to go back to work to pay your vets bills! or can Sparkle get a job as a pest controller somewhere?I took my sitting room curtains to the cleaners yesterday, only to be told that they didn't use the dry cleaning chemical that was recommended on the care label, but there was a dry cleaner at a local shopping centre about 3 miles away who might use it.I took them home, and decided to risk washing them using a cold delicate wash, I did one at a time. They are heavy poly cotton with a bonded lining. Anyway they seem to have survived and look fine. Also booked a man to come and clean 2 carpets and the 3 oiece suite in 3 weeks time. That was the soonest appointment he could give me, but the time will soon go over.Today I'll make the Christmas cake, the fruit has been soaking in port overnight, I'm making a different recipe this year.Hope that everyone has a good day today, thinking of our poorly people, and those struggling with life at the moment.Take care folks.13

Morning folks.Last night I only woke once and nodded off again very soon afterwards. Think I woke because of a series if texts coming in from family in Seoul and Melbourne but I didn't read them until this morning. My drive down south was most pleasant. I bought a few things in the wee shop and got home just before the rain started. The rest of the day was lost in quietness and catching up on recorded TV. I enjoyed the first part of Dalglish even though a lot of it was filmed in the dark. I'll catch up with the second part later today. This morning I'm going up to Oban as I've a couple of small packets to post and I'll do some shopping whilst there. I'll do some domestic goddess stuff before relaxing in my chair of sloth.Bella - I'm with you in the struggling stakes, I never thought I'd ever be in this situation even though it's to be expected I suppose. I hope you feel better soon 🌺 I'm giving myself the winter off to pull myself back together. It seems as if my tentative plans to go to Oz are firming up around me! I need to back away a bit until the new year at least until the virus loses its grip a bit more. Can't commit emotionally until things become clearer.Thinking about our missings and poorlies.Happy Saturday to all.13

Good morning folks, thanks to nmlc for the new thread.
Hugs to Bella and Gers, it's all very difficult when we loose our loved ones, even in DM's case when she was ready to go and there was no hope of recovery, my DSis too is in a bad place -loosing her DH, her soulmate and DM within 4 months of each other.
Winter is a good time to try and kick back and re-charge our physical and emotional batteries.
Been a busy week, not ideal with chronic fatigue, but sometimes necessary. Yesterday was very stressful, the bank had fouled up on a telephone bank transfer for new to us car, on phone at dealers for over an hour while we jumped through countless hoops to prove we were not trying to commit fraud, eventually they found the record of the call and after much table thumping by OH they made the payment, either by operator error (most likely) of system error the chap had not finalised the transfer. Both shattered today and now have to go to a fund raiser and then a dedication of something to dear late BIL, must go for moral support for Dsis.
Ruby keeping my fingers crossed for something good to emerge on the job front.
Take care all.

Morning everyone not as cold today but not as bright either I feel really jittery this morning hubby woke me up at 5 this morning I had a horrible nightmare don’t know what brought that on but it’s really shook me up I feel a bit spaced out very weird.Dog has been walked I want to do some batch cooking just to make life easier for when I get in on a night from work and have promised I will take my carpet cleaner to sons in the morning they are wanting to clean there rug which means by the time I have explained how to do it I will have done it myself they know what they are doing. Not to many fireworks last night but enough to have my poor little dog in a shaking state poor little thing she’s terrified I wish this weekend was over for her have a good day everyone whatever you are doing11

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers glad you had a better night, I did too, was falling asleep watching TV, woke once but drifted off again.
Yesterday the gardener came and we planted up the bulbs in the pots and also planted the rose, its a bit straggly, might trim it further in the spring when we see where the buds are. Moved some other plants, the pots are going down slowly, the ones in the green house are doing ok too. I had to put fleece over them last night, thankfully there has nor been a frost.
DB's back is improving, he is not coming with me to the market this morning, will be off shortly.
No plans for the day as yet. Mac and cheese for supper with salad.

Good morning
Raining again🌧, I really need to get out into the garden to dig my dahlias out of their pots, but I hate gardening in the rain.
We had loads of fireworks✨ last night, one cat was glued to my lap and the other hid behind the sofa🐈🐈.
I also want to crack on with the cross stitch Xmas cards I'm making, the design stitches up quite quickly but then there's the backstitch😭
Have a good day🌻11 -
Hello 👋 I am a lurker and often pop by to have a read so thought I would add to the thread today. Dry but very dull day today and looks like it is trying to rain ☔️ so will do my load of washing darks and dry them inside, I think I will be on weather watch as quite windy out there so will be a shame not get them out on the line. Woke up early but still not moved from settee yet, may have another cuppa and some toast then get cracking. Off to the shops later to get some cat litter. No I have not got a cat but read somewhere that if you keep some in say a sock near your windows it will help with the condensation. So plan on sorting some for the windows around my house but also some for my car, which is a very old 15 year old and always has condensation. Also off to get white vinegar an essential household item but have mushrooms 🍄 that have sprouted on my front lawn so have read that spraying them with this will help get rid. Tonight for tea having chicken thighs, with runny honey, soy sauce and chillie flakes with rice and veg. DD made this at school this week. She scoffed most of it but the small sample I tried was divine so going to make it. Have a good day folks12

Morning! Home again home again jiggedy jig....and not intending to go anywhere for a few weeks at least. House is gone, I am relieved, it is one less thing I have to deal with monthly, it is no longer costing me money, and someone else can play with it now and hopefully enjoy playing with it. Sister and I got there in the end, I am very grateful for her help even if we did have a few arguments, mostly about what she thought I ought to do. I didn't want to do those things. Never mind, that's done and dusted now. Can't describe how relieved I am. Although I do have a bootful of stuff, the type of thing that is useful, like cleaning things, that you can't just chuck down the sink, accompanied by various bits and pieces that may or may not be useful but you can't bear to get rid of, like my fathers lumberjack shirt he wore in the shed. I also resisted bringing back a lot of Justins or projects. I brought back some snazzy carved wood and two little rectangular mirrors that I will make into something, but that is a project after the chest of drawers which is the next project. So I am two future projects in the clutter stakes which I don't think is too bad.Gers and bella, I don't have words to make things better but you're not alone, and it will pass. Faith,my sister was also talking about putting cat litter into her car this week, how bizarre
Scarlet, I don't believe dry cleaning labels any more after doing two huge velvet ones [ separately] in the washing machine and then putting them in the industrial tumble drier. Came out perfect. Maddie, hope you find a bit of equilibrium today...Izzy, me too! Not so much a nightmare but a really weird dream....which I told OH all about then promptly forgot. Ruby, sorry about the job, are you still getting help from Acas or CAB or whoever? Can they help at all? Nanny, when you said about emptying the biscuit tin I confess I had a different reason in mind...for the emptying..
Florence, hope you sell out! Take care of yourselves with hot toddies or buttery porrige today, it's going to be yuk, you're better off cuddling blankets today
