I have a one year medical license. On the front of the card it says it's valid to 09/22. On the rear where the entitlements are for driving etc it also says 09/22

Am I right in saying 3 months before it expires I'll receive something in the post regarding renewal ? Also I won't have to re-sit my test at all will I ?
It's just the pink card that expires or is it the license itself ?
Thanks  :)

Yes, you should receive a letter around 3 months ahead of the expiry.

It is not usually required to re-sit the test.

Depending on the exact reason why you have a medically restricted licence, you may be able to renew online:

My wife recently renewed her medically restricted licence on line and the new licence arrived really quickly - within a couple of weeks.  We were pleasantly surprised :)

Thanks. So do you just dispose of the expired license once it's invalid ?
My condition isn't listed on there so I'd assume I would have to do it via a physical form

Also as asked in the first post, why do the entitlements on the back next to the car sign say 09/22 ?

Because that's how long your entitlement to drive is currently valid to.

Ah right I understand. So I don't need to do anything other than fill out the forms when they come through 3 months or so before it expires, then the entitlement to drive extends by a year or whichever time period the dvla give (1,2 or 3 year restricted).

My son has to renew his licence very year due to medical reasons, it’s a pain.

The process is always slow but this year much worse due to Covid.

The DVLA write to your doctors to check on your health and this year his new consultant has just told him to stop driving because he was recently prescribed anti-depressants.

His last consultant had no concerns with his driving even when previously on anti-depressants.

So he will not get his licence renewed for the foreseeable future.

Sorry to hear that. My meds haven't changed for 5 years or so now, and are unlikely to change providing my mental health stays as it is.
It took 8 months for me to get my medical license in the first place which wasn't great

From what i read,  the consultant must agree that you have been well for 3 months at least, comply with treatment  plans, have no side effects from your meds etc
  • Renewing a licence that has expired after 3 years (medical) should not take as long as it is.  I was sent the notification and forms in August 2021 to renew my licence which was due to expire in November 2021.  I received no confirmation of receipt and it took until November to finally talk to someone who confirmed receipt of information.  He kindly sent me out a letter, in my name, regarding the Section 88 of the RTA that advises that, although the licence has expired, the holder can still drive whilst DVLA are making enquiries.  This is all well and good if your are stopped by the police who should be aware of this.  However, it causes serious problems with hire companies and even courtesy cars from garages as this document is not understood by them.

I am still waiting for my licence to be renewed and up to today I have not been requested to have my usual medicals to prove fitness to drive.

COVID is cited for the delays and staff industrial action.

I sent of all the paperwork in August 21 to renew my wife's licence that expired early October. 5 months later still no licence. I phoned, it took 45 mins for them to answer and they confirmed  that the do have my request. They're blaming covid, of course they would.
