Does anyone remember something called “Rusteater”?
I recall a product that came in a small (about 3” tall) bottle, the bottle was blue from memory. That even had (I think) a little brush inside the lid, like with copydex carpet glue…anyway, you painted this liquid on your rusted garden gate, and, low and behold due to some alchemy reaction, it turned the rust into a rock solid piece of material, sealing the gate from further rust and providing an (almost looked like fused/welded metal that inhibited the spread of rust) covering that made it as good as new and ready for the okd Hammerite if you were feeling up to it.
NOW! This product may have been discounted due to Health and safety regs, or environmental reasons, but if anyone remembers it, or knows what it was AND/OR if there’s a modern day equivalent, can you give me a name or who supplies it.
many thanks…the winter health maintenance plan is starting up.

Pop in to your local car accessory shop (independent Halfords type shop). Jenolite is the market leader for this sort of stuff... A quick search turns up this - https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/jenolite-rust-converter-500g/p/0489866

Kurust is another similar product. There are several products available these days that do the same thing, with varying degrees of success.

For bigger stuff Molasses is now a popular option if you aren't in a tearing hurry. Cheaper, and you just leave the rusted objects in to soak.
I dare say it may become the only option left when all the 'chemical' options have been banned.

Rust Eater^^^ is(was) an orange liquid containing "phosphoric and hydrochloric acid"^^^ which dissolves rust leaving a clean bare metal surface.
Hammerite Kurust is(was) a frothy white liquid (don't know chemical composition)^^^ that turns iron oxides into Fe2O3, haematite, a hard and inert blue/black form of iron oxide mineral.
I guess H & S rules have changed since the 1990s, but similar products under different brand names seem to be available.
^^^from the labels of 25(+) year old bottles in my workshop. RUST EATER was a Turtle Wax Ltd product.

Like everything these days it is eco friendly so you have to use more of it to get the same results, or throw it away and use a different paint which is crap as well and the cycle continues.
