Fiverr - How exactly does it work???

Options
So sorry if this is the wrong forum, wasn’t sure what to put it under.

last night I used Fiverr for the first time and hired a creator to create a simple logo for me - all I wanted was my business name or initial logo - just anything, I wasn’t too fussy about design - I would have happily accepted just a text logo of the name typed out - it would have been better than anything I would have created.

anyway, payed the fee, filled out their requirements and went to sleep

came back to a message from them saying thank you for the initial payment, they required an additional £58 to complete the project.

I scowered the listing and profile high and low and there is no mention of additional fees - I assumed if I paid the value depending on package, that was it so I’m confused how this service works.
now because I have rejected their offer, I can see them not giving a damn about the order or submitting something really bad (I didn’t spend hundreds but it wasn’t cheap either)

Are the creators allowed to create counter offers?
thanks

Surely, you should contact Fiverr customer support? Unfortunately, although their website contains lots of information, Customerservice is not an obvious link. Maybe, you can find it, because I can’t.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Fiverr is just an online marketplace for "gig" work..  Its name derivates from the time when its prices were capped to that.  But that went out the window ages ago.  anyone can hop on Fiverr and sell his or her service for a minimum of $5 and a maximum of how much your service is worth. Fiverr also takes a 20% cut of your earnings on the platform, which means for every $5 you earn, they take $1 and so on.

A little update as it’s all happened so quickly,
I received an email from Fiverr customer services to say I was being refunded, I assumed that the seller had cancelled.

After I checked the details and contacted CS i was informed the seller has been suspended due to violating terms and requesting additional payment, so it looks like someone else has had a similar experience.

thanks so much for explaining the site, I was aware in the past it was “a fiver” but I was unsure if this had changed and that sellers were allowed to add additional rates.
just glad it’s fixed, I’ll have a scout and try and find someone who can do it for my original price.

What was your original price, out of interest? Prices on the website look incredibly low.

    Ow, that's hideous!
There are loads of free online logo creators, just google free online logo
They'll come up with something that looks vaguely like it's been designed and hit's the OP's criteria of
just anything, I wasn’t too fussy about design

    Hi Denbyas  :)

I've used Fiverr a fair bit myself. I see that in your case this person was scamming and I'm glad they got caught and you got your refund. I'm sorry that was your first experience of Fiverr. There are some amazing creators on there and as you now know they generally cost more than a Fiver.

From experience I've found if you're not specific in your requirements then you end up somewhat disappointed and disheartened by the results. I highly recommend getting clear on what you want first - your colour scheme, conveying message, font, illustrations and even look at what you will be using your logo for. Is it for social media, your PFP, business cards, website, vertical videos.. the list of uses is endless. Some logo styles won't work in some formats.

I ended up creating my own because as someone said before me there are many free places online you can make your own logo and have fun in the process.

I personally use Canva, it's free! It also comes with templates you can use so easy of you have no design skills. Every canvas size is covered. You can upgrade to their Pro plan which allows you to resize your logo for different uses and save your logo with a transparent background. This is my affiliate link of you so wish to try Canva for free https://partner.canva.com/wendy I wouldn't suggest it unless I used it myself and I use it for all my branding. Here's an example of some of their templates...

and these are my logos which I made myself using Canva...
