Problems with old Android phone used as SatNav

I have an elderly Android phone (HTC Desire 510 from memory) which I use without a sim card purely as a SatNav. It has Android 4.4.3 and can't (easily) be upgraded further.

It used to work fine both with Google maps (having downloaded and saved the map on WiFi) and also with an app called Navmii (again having downloaded and saved the UK Map).

However since presumably upgrading the apps, both now seem to crash at random intervals and it is rare to complete a journey using either of them without it happening.

Is there any way of going back a version or two? From memory, Navmii insisted I upgraded the app when I went to get a newer version of the map.

Or, any other suggestions of a free satnav app that will work reliably on it?

Thanks
