Persistent debt credit card

Hi,
I logged onto my online account for my credit card today for the first time in a month and noticed a pop up saying my account had been closed due to 36 months persistent debt. I have never once been made aware of being in any type of debt at all and always been at the same address and receive statements to my house so no issues with post. I had a look through my statements and have had a 0 balance for at least 6 months, only recently needed to use it for some emergency car repairs and cleared the balance in full (just wanted the protection of a credit card). Even prior to the 0 balance for 6 months I cleared a huge chunk off to take it to a 0 balance and before that I was paying more than the minimum albeit only slightly but never missed a payment and the payments were always more than the interest being charged, surely that isn't right? Can anyone advise, should I raise a complaint? I dont really want ti's affecting my credit score when I wasn't notified and saving fora house!

  • Phone them and point out that you are not in persistent debt now, and ask them to reinstate it?

They are free to no longer do business with you if they wish, so realistically you don't have a valid reason to complain if they don't reinstate it.

As soon as a card balance goes below £200 it should stop the persistant debt "clock".  As longjohnjohnson says - give them a call and query it - could just be a mistake in their monitoring system.

When was the last time you used the online account and/or used the card (I mean to pay for something)?   If it was over 36 months ago, is it theoretically possible that they closed it some time ago and you've not noticed because you've not tried to use it?
