International Money Order

Does anybody know where I can purchase an international money order? I need to obtain a copy of my marriage certificate from the New York City Clerk's office and that's the only form of payment they'll accept (unless I know somebody who lives in the US, which I don't).

    Have you asked your bank?

The Post Office can also arrange it.
  • My bank (Nationwide) don't do them, and the post office have told me that they no longer sell them.

    Does that help at all?
Thanks, but I think the site is American and doesn't offer any additional info that will help me unfortunately.

Just a thought, but is it worth contacting that site and asking for help? Nothing to lose basis ...

I don’t think you’ll be able to get one anywhere in the UK. It sounds like something Western Union or Moneygram would have offered but it seems they only offer that service within the US now which is not helpful to you.

Perhaps it’s worth contacting the clerk’s office to see if there is any other international payment they would accept since the rest of the world has moved on and no longer accepts cheques.

It might be worth a try I guess. Like you say, I've got nothing to lose and I'm at a bit of a loss otherwise.

I've already contacted them and they've confirmed that they only accept money orders. Seems a bit ridiculous to me in this day and age, but there's not much I can do about it.

It does seem ridiculous in 2021. Good luck getting it sorted.

I suspect that they know how things should be done, and it's the way they're done in the US. They may find it unfathomable that you can't get one you can post them any more, because if you were in the US you would be able to. And, of course, historically, you'd have been able to post them one from the UK.

I suppose they wouldn't accept a few grubby $ bills in the post? I think that's how I ended up paying remotely for something in the Netherlands (sending Euro notes rather than $ bills, obviously). They wouldn't accept a credit card payment, I don't have a Dutch bank account.
