PPI tax back

My mum claimed PPI successfully in 2020. She is a pensioner and doesn’t get enough to pay tax. She was due to claim the tax back she paid on the claim after the tax year ended in April 2021. Mum suffered a ruptured aneurysm on April 5th followed by a SAH, she was in a coma, had a tracheostomy and was in hospital and neuro rehab for nearly 6 months. She has cognitive issues including severe aphasia as well as right side weakness.
Can I claim the tax back for her as she is unable to fill in the form and cannot sign her name?

  • I think you will need get a power of attorney to act on her behalf (not just for this).

There is plenty of time to do this, any claim for the year to 5 April 2021 must be made by 5 April 2025.
