O/S Daily Wednesday 3 November 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but temperature has really dropped and air feels cool.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO's from roast - made some more mash, used up some broc and peas, made fresh gravy as none left, was lovely. DS1 had fish and rice. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg and chips.
Work yesterday was busy but manageable - working at the other office today but my half day - so will be finished at lunch time. I'll be coming home and doing some jobs - I'm finding that I can't get everything done just on a Friday so need to utilize my afternoon on a Wednesday to get some stuff done. We'll see. The menu planning and prep ahead is definitely helping though. Still some unrest at work and had news of further change that is going to happen - not something directly connected to me but could have a knock on effect - I'll wait and see, to alter my hours about would be very difficult as I've just altered them at their request - will be interested to see how this is tackled - as the only thing they can really do is try to force me to take on extra hours which of course legally they can't make me. We'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Lovely clear skies again but quite chilly, more washing to put out today. By the time I got home yesterday the washing was a little damp but had a great fresh smell, it was finished off overnight by the stove, just need to put it away now!
I went to visit a work colleague after work who is struggling with her Mum going into a care home, took her some flowers and chocolate which made her cry, I had a little bubble along with her. It was such a lovely evening I walked to the glass bank and soft plastic bin, really enjoyed it, felt so good to be out in some dry weather.
Hope your interview went well Ruby, I'm sure Nels gave you good advice.
Sorry your job is up in the air NRA, such uncertainty everywhere at the moment.
My job for tonight is to sew some weights into the bottom of the new living room curtains to see if they can hang a little straighter, not looking forward to that!
Have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Sorry to read that work is still unsettled, you can only do so much to acommodate them, you have a life as well.I'm going for my Covid booster today at a local medical centre, I won't be there long though, they usually whizz you through. DH had his a couple of weeks ago.I started some in depth cleaning yesterday, Dh helped. We did the bathroom, a bedroom, and I started another bedroom. I'll do a bit more today, but will have to collect Dgs from nursery as DD is taking Dgd for a hospital appt in Newcastle, Dh is taking them as she hasn't a car at the moment. We went to the quiz last night, it was ok. A couple of teams didn't return after lockdown so we are a small group now, it's a pity.Hope everyone has a good day today, thinking of our poorly people.Take care folks.14

Morning folks.Yesterday was a beautiful though very cold day. First thing three blokes descended to sort out the snagging on my new blinds. Trunking was installed down the side of two window frames to hide the cables. The theory is to plug in the cables to re-charge the motor batteries, the reality for me is that the top is too high to reach easily or safely so the cables are in permanently, I just need to plug in the sockets when needed. They do look better with the trucking. One chap installed the solar charger onto the bathroom blind. I'm not convinced that it'll work enough though it faces south, I'll wait to see.At the same time I was phoning E.On and my bank after getting an email telling me that my direct debit had been cancelled (by me) and payment couldn't be taken. No, I hadn't cancelled the DD! My call to the bank left me on hold for 30 minutes until I hung up. My next call, to E.On was more successful but frustrating, they couldn't tell me why the DD had been 'cancelled', just reinstated it.My trip to the tip was easy, two bags of green waste deposited, a nice brief chat with tip man and a detour to buy some bird peanuts was enough time to be outside. I managed to avoid lightning the stove but it could be different today. It's very very cold.Once again I woke early to a sky full of such bright stars. I even went downstairs, opened the front door and stood freezing my bits off to look at them. I tried to take a photo on my iPhone but it wasn't that good, I shall explore how it's done today.Enough waffle, I want to whizz through GBBO before doing anything else. Virtual hugs to all our poorlies. Happy Wednesday to all.14

Thank you all so much for the good wishes re my interview, I think it went well but we will have to wait and see, I was in there a long time and I anserewed all the questions and made them laugh a few times, we will have to wait and see - hopefully the wait wont be too long.
Back to work today with my temporary, annoying manager he told me yesterday with the skills he has taught me I could get a job in a supermarketI have ony been there for five weeks and he has been off for three of those ! His heart is in the right place he is just a bit full of himself !
Pasta for dinner tonight with some hm tomato sauce and I will fry off some chicken breast to have with it so a nice easy dinner, dw needs empying and I will put a wash on before work.
NRA sorry to hear about your work troubles xxx
Have good days all xx14 -

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Well they said it would get colder this week and this morning it certainly has, the heating was put on straight away no messing. Yesterday was chilly but we had sunshine which was quite pleasant, until you were out of it!
After a pleasant meet up with oldest buddy yesterday I am meeting my best friend today for our alternate Wednesday bus trip 'n lunch day. (Our third friend is not with us today due to a family bereavement and ongoing problems with her hand) As we have got quite set in our ways we will no doubt end up going to Ilkley again for a bit of wandering and browsing then lunch (and wine!) and generally putting the world to rights.
RUBY I hope yesterday went well. GERS those blinds sound too complicated for me! NRA and NMLC sorry to hear you are having work worries. Life is so uncertain for lots of reasons these days.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe xx

Morning all. Yes, decidedly chilly here too. Toast and yogurt for brekkie shortly then shower and a quick tidy up before the Cleaner comes. Book club meeting yesterday first time since lockdown so as you can imagine very little talk about books but a lot of chat and general gossip.

GERS those blinds sound too complicated for me!They are really so easy! Just press a button on the remote control - up / down / stop. My walls are so thick that the window ledges are very deep and the living room has one of the sofas in front of it so I can't reach window without moving it.Enjoy your day out, it always sounds lovely. Now I'm reluctantly going to shift out from under my duvet.13

Morning all,
what a beautiful sky when I drew back the curtains, a lovely apricot colour. Like others, I quickly put the heating on, I also made a hot chocolate drink and came back to bed!
Yesterday was so beautiful DH and I decided to go out for a walk to a local country park, it was so nice, plenty of birds on the lake, and lovely walks through very old trees. Perfect! We then came home to two calls from both sets of parents requesting our help, so it was nice to have had a period of time to ourselves first to recharge our batteries.
Today is my day to visit parents, plus I need to work on their online grocery shop. I am also trying to be organised for Christmas this year, as I have a feeling I will need to step in and take over some of the personal care for both mums over the Christmas period. (They are with a care agency) I am trying to get ahead of myself so that I don’t overstretch my own health.
Other plans for today, are to finish tidying the spare bedroom, and also balance my bank account, I am so remiss at updating my accounts when buying items online.
Take care all.
