BMW pedestrian protection system

Hello
This evening I hit a deer with my car. The deer ran off and no sign of damage to the car except it has set off the pedestrian protection system. This has popped my bonnet and warning message says I need to take it to a dealer.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so am I looking at a big bill?

I was hoping it wouldn't be so much. I am hoping a local garage rather than a dealer may be able to help0

Since 2011, the ability to do the reset may have become more widely available. I have no knowledge, but worth calling some independents to enquire0

As above, call some independents, there is a part of the hinge that breaks and is about £100, then they need to reset the actuators. Happens all the time, so you'd expect independents to be able to do it for a fraction of the £1500 BMW charge. You could always claim on your insurance.......I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

An awful lot less than having to replace most of the front end, though.
