That would be the simplest solution all round, and has already been suggested. However, the OP has said they can't access the back of the dishwasher to fit a replacement hose (the only access is to the point where the other end of the hose joins the water supply), and they can't pull out the dishwasher to gain access without a lot of disruption - which sounds unusual, but that's what they've said.
