    Just had a 🤣🤣🤣 thought.

Our kitchen is directly under our bedroom, so if we keep our old school 4x60w bulbs, we are also getting under floor heating for upstairs!

Joking aside, we cook our main meals at lunchtime, so only have the lights on briefly (now it's dark) to make breakfast, and a sarnie and a cup of tea in the evening.  So an hour a day, tops.

It's a self contained room, which helps.

No.  We will still get some.  Especially when the cost of electricity is only going one way, it would seem.

It was just the realisation that all that excess heat hasn't been "wasted" over the years.😎🤭😇😉

Yup - heat straight into that ceiling/floor void, and ventilated oot the cavities...
    Maybe.

  • I bought a bungalow without having an electrical report, and all 17 spotlights were 50 w halogen.  A few had blown and I replaced with LED's and they wouldn't work :(

I've had to have all the transformers changed, the 5w LED's won't work with the 50w plus transformers.

Aldi had the ES versions of the Status LED filament bulbs we bought last week, so we picked up a pack of 4 (£6.99). 7w=60w

We shall deploy these in the kitchen later in the week, as we need to take down the covers and give them a clean first.

That seems a good price. I think they're still about £5 each in my local Co-op.

I promise I will slap myself with a wet fish if they don't last at least a couple of years.

(Damn! Now I've got to keep my fingers permanently crossed for 24 months.)

If they don't last at least 5 years, DH will be slapping me with a wet fish!!!.   He will then retreat into his cave, re-deploy the old bulbs and hang the consequences!!!  (sorry polar bears).

Sounds like you want reflector bulbs if they're recessed - the bulb is mirrored and shaped to focus the light downwards out of the fitting.  A lower wattage will be cooler, but as already discussed I doubt you will have any problem with heat.

Failed at the first hurdle.   One of the bulbs wasn't working (faulty?) from the get go, so we'll have to take the whole box back.

    Ensue much swearing from DH!!

Oh well, back to the 20th century we go!!
