IVA & BRAIN TUMOUR

Options
hi, my partner has been in an iva for nearly 3 years now, he has just been told he has a brain tumour, he has not seen the consultant yet for care plan, surgery etc.. but is worried that when he gets put onto statuary sick pay, the iva will default. He had insurance but iva company made him cancel it.  Any suggestions on who to get help from. Thank you x

  • Hi,

very sorry to hear of your sad news, if I remember correctly, in my IVA document pack there was a whole section on sickness and loss of employment and terminal illnesses.

Your first port of call is to discuss the situation with your IVA company, there are mechanisms in place to support the IVA to continue (especially if it’s not a charity run company like stepchange - as they will want to get their fees).

As he is quite a way in to the agreement, is a F&F settlement a possibility for you?

To be perfectly frank, I think the IVA would be the least of my worries given the circumstances.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing

IVAs can be marked complete on the basis of existing payments in circumstances like these.

That may be the first thing to explore with his IP, backed up by medical evidence
