The main issue seems to be the op thought they were being monthly when they are actually being paid 4 weekly

Forget that. I understand it now. You don’t get all your salary paid in the same year but you still get paid the right amount for the year. The missing £200 is included in the first pay check of the next year but at the end of that year you will carry £400 over etc0
