EDF heating unit increase of 111%

Are you on an economy 10 type tariff? I get 2 hours in afternoon at an 11p rate for my heating and water. And 8 hours at other times. They are set up on a separate circuit to a specific meter. I thought economy 7 was just 7 hours at night?0

Other than the fact that it affects you, what makes you conclude that the increase is "targeted" as you seem to think it is?.deadwoodftuo said:For sure people still complained about energy price increases but targeted 111% increases never existed.
Virtually everyone not on a fix has been given exactly that sort of increase, and those with fixes ending before April next year have at least that increase incoming, are they being "targeted" too?.
I was around in the mid to late 70's and have memories of frequent and extended power cuts, unless you were there it's easy to think of it as being the sepia toned "good old days",it certainly wasn't all "days of wine and roses" as many seem to think it was.
Would a return to a region based fixed price, single supplier, energy supply model solve any of the energy markets problems?,wishful thinking,I just cant see it myself,realistically.1 -
Hi PZ19, My tariff since 2020 with npower up to this April was Super Tariff so called because you had a choice of charging your heaters in the afternoon = 2 to 4 pm and 2 to 7 am instead of the wasteful Economy 7. When I went with EDF in April it was classed as E7 but I still retained the split charging times and the pm charge was the same cost per unit as the overnight charge, npower had increased the pm charge to +70% more around 2008 now EDF have topped that to a 111% increase.
I would very much like to know who your energy supplier is and the name of your tariff so I can visit the web site and take a look at the charges Are you on an historical 3 year e.g. price freeze deal - 11p seems a very attractive rate. I have attached a pic of my meter, Horstmann, I'm fairly su
re it does not do E10, thanks.

re it does not do E10, thanks.I think EDF are, in effect correcting their 'error' of accepting you from npower’s former ‘Super Tariff’ (a special legacy tariff requiring a complex meter with 2 mpans with 3 or 4 registers, or two separate meters) to an Economy 7 system, yet still retaining the 2 hour afternoon boost. EDF were to all intense and purposes selling you 2 hours off peak electricity during the ‘peak’ afternoon period.
I used to have ‘Super Tariff’ storage heaters and was told unless I went onto a flat ‘very expensive’ tariff, I was unable to change supplier without having the wiring being changed to permit only 7 hours overnight heating only. No other supplier at the time would supply the afternoon boost at E7 night rates unless the transfer was to an E10 system that ultimately wasn’t compatible with npower’s Super Tariff timer systems and meters!
Don’t beat yourself up though, if you were still on a 'Super Tariff' based tariff (with Eon.next who directly took over npower) your night ‘heat’ and afternoon boost ‘heat’ rate would both be 20.207p per kWh unit with a 26.460p daily standing charge (on top of the ‘normal' side of the meter charges -l ighting, hot water, cooking etc plus the second standing charge). So paying your 2 hours at the new price will probably still be cheaper than if you stuck with the 'legacy' supplier.
Eventually I got an entire new Air Source Heat Pump heating system on standard E7 which reduced bills by over 50% from storage heating on ‘Super Tariff’.

rp1974, can you please give details of any other near triple digit increases that virtually everyone not on a price fix deal was loaded with. As regards targeted increases the 111% on my pm charge cost is definitely designed to make me use the cheaper but still wasteful 5 hour overnight charge, I say wasteful because my property (due to outside temperatures) is not in need of such input, although the sensors will modulate with 5 heaters wasting 5% each day by next year it is costly - don't forget everyone is being urged to conserve energy.
On my laptop somewhere is a newspaper screen shot announcing B. Gas in 2013 made an annual profit of £312 M on domestic gas maintenance (up 16%) - this is another reason electric heating is shunned by the energy companies despite being green.
When I telephoned EDF in March the person I spoke to commented that "looking at the annual consumption figures supplied you are using practically nothing" I am now left wondering if I am indeed being personally targeted.
EDF never notified me of any price change - see my first post, I only found out this week by emailing them.
Electric powered car owners are going to be the number one domestic target for revenue if temperatures keep increasing. EDF are building Hinkley Point and Hartlepool is an EDF power power station past it's life span.
As regards the sepia coloured 1970's the power cuts were down to industrial action not Putin nipping the pipeline.
I don't want to digress but the recent news of a school boy going home in broad daylight being knifed and shot and host of similar cases tells me emphatically I did live in a better time in the 70's and other decades too.0 -
Use the search function to find relevant details, facts and figures,if your that interested.
In my own case rates have risen from around 14p standing charge and 11p per unit to around 25p standing charge and 22p per unit.
Several friends, relations, neighbours etc have even higher percentage rises than that,I'm not privy to precise details of their arrangements, otherwise I'd post them.
Uncertain if your metering set up counts as a restricted meter,or not.If you search the forum and or Google it may provide further information.
