Virgin one account - why can you not use the switcher service - bank is not recognised

My sister in law has recently paid off her debt in her virgin one account and now wants to switch her direct debits etc to a proper current account (Santander 123 lite). Unfortunately if she trys to use the switch account option her sort code 16-60-51 is not recognised as a bank. She has repeatedly phoned Virgin one who insist that it should work ok. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did they resolve it? I myself switched from Virgin one to Santander when I was in the same situation about 5 years ago and it worked perfectly.

The Virgin One account isn't actually a Virgin Money account but operated by RBS. As it is a mortgage offset account, it isn't covered by the current account switching service. I am baffled why Virgin would tell anyone that "it should work".
Some banks offer a partial switching service, meaning they will do their best to move your DDs for you, but you get no guarantees or redirection service with this kind of switching service, and you might as well do it all yourself. It's not difficult to move SOs and DDs and your balance from one account to another.0 -
