Fortunately it's being monitored by APCOA, on non-relevant land where airport byelaws apply.

Sadly many people will get caught and believe these are real fines.

  • Hello, does anybody know about dropping off at East Midlands airport.

I accept I have to pay 5 pounds but does anybody know how? I cannot see anything on the airport website.

Do I get out and go to a machine? Am I greeted with a barrier and a scanner that scans my credit or debit card on exit? Do I pay online?

    Much obliged to yo all.
  • I don't know about East Midlands airport.

But at Gatwick, there is no barrier, no payment machines.
ANPR logs your arrival/departure and you have to pay online by midnight the following day>

Thank you Unicorn51, appreciate your response.

If it helps anybody else I just managed to converse with a bot on the East Midlands Airport website relevant to the rapid drop off zone. After Monday I will confirm if this is the case or not.

The charges are £5.00 for 15 minutes and £1.00 for every minute thereafter. This can be paid at the Barriers by Cash or Card "

It's ironic that air travel is in the doldrums and the response is to charge and threaten for the privilege of taking their their customers there.

If you live anywhere in London and surrounding areas, it's much easier and cheaper to get to Heathrow by train. The Piccadilly line has three stations within the airport complex.

Not with the amount of luggage my wife insists we take!

10p more in short term for 30 mins.

This could create chaos if people move to the the short term.

Rather than ~5mins in the terminal area drop and go,  take your time help your passenger to the check in desks  20-30mins.

Well I had to drop someone off yesterday.  It was tempting to let him drive, use the drop off and then name him as the driver at his new address abroad but we went for what was 2 hours free at the Long Term Parking.   However this is now only 30 minutes free and £8 for 2 hours.
As getting to and from the terminal on the bus in 30 minutes was a bit problematic he duly caught the bus on his own.
I find this group very interesting and applaud the efforts made.  As I haven't yet managed to acquire a private parking invoice I haven't joined until now!

    To update.

There are 2 lanes with barriers to exit and a payment machine at each that take a card payment and cash.

To note, they are not well placed and unless you are driving a high seated car you will probably, like me, even at 6 foot 2, struggle to read the instructions on the card machine.

I was, at first. in one lane where the car in front of me struggled and took 6 minutes at the barrier before he gave up, reversed and joined the other lane, as I had done already, I am uncertain if it was user error or a faulty barrier but it created a queue at 5am for the one, perceived, working barrier.
