They cancelled flight

Some friends of min booked a holiday to Egypt with a holiday company. It was a package with Tui flights, transfers and hotel.
With 2 weeks to go, the company have emailed them to say that the Tui flight on that date is not going and they have to pay around 190GBP more to go another flight.
Needless to say my friends are not amused.
What are their options?

Comments

  • Is the flight on a totally different day?

I assume a full refund option has also been offered?

Options are full refund or pay extra for a different date.  Do not accept vouchers for another holiday.

There is another Tui flight a day beforee but they did not offer that. They are proposing a totally different airline with 190GBP extra.
Looks like a refund my be the only option. It does mean that they lose the cost of the hotel and car parking they booked at the airport.

They may not lose those if they were booked on refundable terms. Maybe get them to contact TUI and ask for further options?

@emmajones1976 - It doesn’t sound like a TUI holidays package though. For some reason the OP has not mentioned the tour operator but it sounds like its organised by another firm who just happen to use TUI Airways flights.

If a package or linked travel arrangement then TELLIT01 has given options.

Agreed, oh dear. Ask politely for a full refund do not pay another penny and when (or if ) you get the refund book elsewhere. At least 4 people on a well-known review site in the last few days have said the only way they got their refunds was by issuing legal proceedings, in all cases they paid up at that point but some had been waiting since last year
  • For the sake of just £190 I would be inclined to pay it, given the reviews (I saw the same ones Alan saw) and actually get the holiday.
