Expiring drivers licencphoto card renewed as lost - what will the expiry date be on the replacement?

HI
My photo card for my licence was expiring September 22nd. I needed the actual photo card during September so in August I sent off a renewal form saying I'd lost it. Complete with new photo and full fee. Given how long the DVLA are taking to process anything, I could not be without the card for months. For some reason, despite only renewing my passport last year, it would not let me renew online so I had to do it the long winded way.
We are no having an ongoing discussion - any ideas on who is right?
Me: According to my understanding, the replacement card will be issued with a full 10 years validity as its a new card called from the processing date.
Mr Wooly: They are just going to reissue it and it is now expired so it will be invalid and you risk a fine.
