Home Improvement Credit Card

Hi,
I'm looking to take out a 0% interest credit card for some home improvements. I'm not expecting any issues when applying but they all say they are based on a £1,200 credit limit, but i need ~£5k. Is this something that can usually be increased easily? I don't want to apply if i can only have £1200
Thanks

You won't know what limit you'll get until you're accepted, with a few exceptions.
The £1200 limit is a legal representative requirement.1 -
Thanks, i was expecting that answer i know it's impossible to say as there are alot of variables. Just wondering if anyone has been in the same boat / what the normal limits are (I have 1 existing credit card from many years ago that i rarely use which has a large limit)0

There's no such thing as 'normal limits' as they vary widely according to individual circumstances and card policies - the chances of anyone being in exactly the same boat are vanishingly small, even if you explained much more detail about your full financial position.Becco_2 said:Thanks, i was expecting that answer i know it's impossible to say as there are alot of variables. As a general rule of thumb, you'll be offered a low limit if you've got very little history, or you've got any black marks on your file. You'll be offered a higher limit if you have a solid and unblemished history.I know people that have been given an initial limit of £500. A couple of years ago I applied for a BT card and was given a £12,000 limit. So somewhere between those 2 could be considered "normal", I suppose.

It will depend on the company what limit you get initially and then after that what they might be willing to increase it to. In the past I have been given chunky increases when I've had a card for a while and rang them up to discuss an expected large purchase - cars usually.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
