O/S Daily Monday 1 November 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, drying up underfoot, there was some laying water after heavy sudden downpours a couple of times yesterday morning, although it's quite blustery.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, lovely it was too, some LO's - so will use them to make another meal.
Back to work today - we'll see how busy it is.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope your day at work is a quiet one.
Still wet and windy this morning, it didn't stop raining all day yesterday, the furthest I went was the outside bin. I did lots of little jobs including sorting the house insurance renewal, £186 with their renewal but £120 with the same company online as a new customer so I phoned them and got a price match. Very pleased with that outcome.
Spoke to DS2 yesterday, first time for about a month. They've been on holiday, still having work done to the flat but generally well. Looks like they will be coming for Christmas if the restrictions allow which will be good, I've not seen them for nearly 2 years.
Right, off for a swim and a day at the mad house. Hope you're all well, take care. XX14 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope work won't be too bad.It looks damp out there, yesterday was wet until the afternoon when it brightened a bit. We've had a fairly quiet weekend, did a bit of shopping on Saturday, and had the dgc's for a while yesterday. Our library reading group starts again this morning, our last one was at the beginning of March last year.Hope everyone has a good day today, thinking of our poorly people.14

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Can't be bothered to get up and look out the window so I've no idea what the weather is doing, I hope the water levels have dropped otherwise it's a big step down to the jetty.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.13 -
Good Morning all,
I woke early today so got up made myself a hot chocolate and come back to bed for a while. I don’t like to start jobs too early as I don’t wish to disturb DH, or possibly disturb our neighbour whose bedroom adjoins our sitting room.
Today’s plans are to continue decluttering the spare bedroom. I emptied the drawers under the bed yesterday and the dust that has collected under the bed, oh my! So, I will be moving the mattress and slats today with DH help and then vacuuming.
I also, wish to visit the parents, and collect their weekly rubbish. With feeling so rubbish the last month I haven’t been able to do a longer visit, so will try and do at least two visits this week.
Csarina, sorry that you are a fellow sufferer of fibromyalgia. My sister noticed that I am particularly bad at the change of each season. As it takes at least 6 weeks to adjust it can be draining.
OS? We have been going through our budget and making lots of cuts to unnecessary outgoings, plus looking to change the provider with our car insurance will save us a lot.
When it comes time for renewal we will price compare the house insurance too.
I will also be menu planning today as well. I am terrible for forgetting to get meat out of the freezer, so I must set up a reminder on my phone. I will probably do sausages tonight from frozen, and I have potatoes to use up so will do mash, with carrots and what green veg I can find in the freezer.
Take care all. Thinking of you Nels.

Good morning everyone and Pinch Punch, first of the Month!
.
It's a wet and windy morning here but it's warm inside the house so that's all that matters. We had hundreds of little trick or treaters come knock on our door last night and we managed to get through 2.5kg of sweets but the kids were so polite and well behaved except for one lad who tried to grab handfuls of sweets. Steve gently told him off and it was fine. There was definitely lots of children from neighboring areas though as there aren't that many on our estate. Once the sweets were gone we took down the outside decorations and had no more callers.
Steve made the most amazingly tasty roast chicken dinner yesterday. We had run out of oil for the potatoes so Steve used some lard instead, oh my word, they were so crispy and delicious. I will be pinching that idea for our Christmas dinner. Tonight we are going to have faggoty pea stew as it is just the weather for it.
Today will be clean up day, Phoebe is going to put away the decorations , Steve is going to clean the living room and I am going to do the washing and drying. I also have to wrap up Steve's birthday presents, some more Christmas presents and maybe bake a coffee and walnut cake.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all
Nice and light here this morning after the clock change it always throws my sleep out for a few days afterwards though. No rain atm so I hope it holds off.
We had a sucessful day shopping yesterday, we have a lot of family birthdays in Nov and Dec too so I think I have sorted most of them and got a few xmas bits too, I will have to go out again but I am glad to have got started.
My mum has made us a chicken pie for dinner so I just need to do some mash and veg to go with it, so a nice easy dinner after work.
DW needs emptying and I shall put a wash on before I go to work, I have to do some prep for my interview tomorrow so I shall do that tonight.
Have good days all xxx14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The heavy rain and wind is still with us but due to ease today, or so they say! It was torrential yesterday afternoon and evening so that put paid to the trick or treaters as not one braved that weather and I don't blame them!
More mundane jobs to do this morning then it may be feet up reading this afternoon. With the change in seasons I don't seem to be reading as much as I did in the summer. Though I had better not doze off as I have a T*sco delivery booked for this afternoon. My first one since their new system of saving paper and e-mailing the receipt etc before delivery.. I also have a delivery from FatFace promised - 2 sale items, one for me and a stocking filler for DD's lovely chap.
I think tea might be something easy, I may get out a portion of the chilli I made last week and have it with some hm wedges.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Thinking of NELS and MARIE. I hope everyone is safe from the rising waters. Take care one and all xx

Hi everyone,
We both woke up with headaches this morning so we're a bit zombified. Steve has put on a mindless TV programme because the news is just too grim for either of us to face. I'd much prefer sitting in silence but Steve likes to put the gogglebox in the morning.
I've started making some felt 12 Days of Christmas decorations, it means using my dormant embroidery skills (skill, what skill) but I'm happy with how it's going so far. Laura is also doing some felt crafting, making a birthday crown for Esben, she made a lovely one last year with ducks on, this years has a rainbow on (he likes singing the I can sing a rainbow song) but I don't know what else she plans.
Today will be the usual mix of housework, crafting, reading etc. We are also going to look at bi-fold doors to replace the French doors into the garden. We are south facing so it would be nice to be able to open the whole space up on hot days.
Peony, I hope you aren't in too much pain, same goes for all the poorly ones, especially Nelski, I hope you've been able to go back to the convalescent place. Ruby, good luck with the interview tomorrow in case I miss you in the morning.
Have a good day all.12 -
Morning folks.More high winds here already. Yesterday the atrocious weather mostly dried up in the afternoon. I only lit the stove in the late afternoon. My Halloween cake turned out well though I only decorated three of the squares. A marshmallow covered in white icing with black eyes and mouth made a good ghost likeness, well, at least a likeness of someone with a sheet over their head! The three guisers told jokes and recited poems so well.I also cooked some dishes with mince, used up a small bottle of red wine and bottle of bought sugo which was delicious. All portioned up.Dr Who didn't disappoint, neither did SCD.Last night the stars were out again, shining so brightly in the dark cloudless sky. This morning the grey clouds are back.Camelot - that's such good news about DD2, fingers crossed for the visit.Dumpling - you made my mouth water! As for today, no idea yet. There's a bit of new month banking to do but that'll take 20 minutes tops. Not sure if the gardener will come, she seems impervious to rain.Thoughts to our poorlies. Happy Monday to all.12
