Syphon size

Hi. I have removed cistern and syphon in a closed loop. All nuts bolts etc are rust free. Syphon is 11 inch and 7ltrs. For a single flush lever toilet. Do I need to replace the syphon (which is knackered) with like for like or would a 9 inch etc work. Reason is, it seems much trickier to get hold of 11 inch compared to shorter heights. Thanks in advance

1. Have you measured it right?
https://www.toiletspareparts.com/blogs/news/how-to-know-the-size-of-your-syphon-siphon
2. Amazon and other online places sell em. Any decent Plumbing place will, too (not the diy sheds). Expensive though.
A different size (height) will (obviously) have smaller fluid flush as a result of the lower water level possible in the cistern... It may make it poor flush as a result... The fill valve will need level adjustment to work and not overflow.
Consider a push-button flush valve replacement to the syphon instead? (e.g. Flomasta https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-kf700-1-dual-flush-valve/712gf ).
PS I assume 'closed loop' is meant to read 'close-coupled'1 -
Hi, thanks. Yes close-coupled!
It says 11" and 7ltr on the old syphon.
Thanks for the information, much appreciated.0 -
Get a Dudley Turbo88 adjustable height one. Adjust to fit just under cistern lid. Added advantage - you can change the syphon diaphragm washer without removing the cistern on a low level close coupled.1
