current account for a small sports club

anyone know which bank I can open a "club" bank account for. My son and his friends are members of a small basketball club and we need a bank account to collect money for kits, Christmas party and now and again for new basketballs  etc. Another parent and I are willing to be co-signatories. I thought the virgin money clubs (not charities) one would would do but as i was filling in the form the questions got more and more complex. The team is small and the number of transactions would be very small. There are no employees, volunteer coach and the children's families sort their own insurance through the basketball association so this account would very much be only for the social side and a bit of equipment.

What sort of Starling business account would you suggest?

Business account - for limited companies and other registered businesses?
    Is there another?

Is a "small basketball club" some kind of registered business?

For a registered charity, I use CAF but that charges an £8 monthly fee which would almost certainly not be appropriate for your club's turnover.

Sometimes small local building societies offer a treasurer's account.

for  a charity / club account you normally need a business bank account ie not a personal account
  • I know we need a business a/c virgin money have one with a £6 per month fee. This would be too expensive. They have a free one if you have fewer than 10 transactions a month (we would have far fewer) but when I started to complete the form it wanted information about employees, turnover, date on start up, amount of start up capital, source of start up capital etc. None of this is relevant to us. Just want to hold a tiny bit of money

The point I was trying to make was that Starling offer a business account and this is said by them as being for "limited companies and other registered businesses".

I really doubt that a small basketball club would be a registered business.

But, then, I don't know what Starling mean by using the phrase.  Perhaps you do.

Barclays, Metro, Natwest, Santander all do community accounts.

    Staring don't do community accounts.

    I currently use Barclays.
