Activating a Lloyds debit card

Recently I had to cancel my Lloyds Bank debit card and ask for a new one to be sent. The person who answered the phone said it would take three to five days to receive the new card but meanwhile I could borrow cash from friends if I needed any money or use bank transfer to pay for bills. I asked if I could view the new card details online the next day and use those online and I was told a definite, 'NO.' The new card would need to be activated before I could use it.

A couple of days later I needed to pay for some groceries online so in spite of being told I couldn't use the new card details I tried it anyway and guess what? It worked. No problem. I also used the card details with Paypal and again no problem.

I received the new card today and the letter says to use the contactless feature I need to use the card and pin first to activate it.It is JUST the contactless feature that needs activating so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. A credit card may be different, I don't know.

I thought I'd post this in case anyone else is left thinking they can't order their groceries or buy anything online.

PIN you can get from the app and you can often link the card to something like google pay. It's always worth having multiple cards (one Mastercard, one Visa) from different banks just in case you have a problem like this
