Pet rats and new puppy

Options
Does anyone have pet rats and dog and do they live in harmony. Son has pet rats and we are getting a puppy in a few weeks. Is it feasible to be able to train the pup not to go for the rats.
Obviously I'm not planning on leaving them loose together but would like to desensitised the pup so she doesn't immediately try to catch one if they should escape. And so that their presence in their cage in my sons room is just another scent she can smell not something she must get to.
Previous dog was so old and short sighted when the rats arrived he wasn't  bothered.
Thanks

My golden retriever puppy was absolutely fine with our pet rats and rabbits; never gave each other any bother and once he was grown up the rats would climb all over him. My current dog, however, couldn't shake his predatory urges and after the last rat died, we decided to move on from rat keeping. It was an unpleasant two years with them both in the house.

It will depend on the breed of the puppy.

If it has a strong prey drive then it is unlikely they will live in harmony.
