most chain type places do change the brakes too soon. I've had adviisory on pads on one year, and those same pads the following year had no advisory.I find discs and pad recommendations to be very subjective on the mechanic/tester.1

My disk changes have been the result of a measurement with the correct gear, either end of life or warped (not sufferd cracked, yet). I have done an awful lot of miles since I passed my test.
I trust my garage to deal with the pads as required but I can see them through the wheel and on the regular check I can see how much material is on them, contamination, state of disks etc. Same as checking the inside rims of tyres, you have to get down and dirty on a regular basis, same as checking fluids and air. Responsible car owners all do this right?1 -
