    most chain type places do change the brakes too soon. I've had adviisory on pads on one year, and those same pads the following year had no advisory.

    I find discs and pad recommendations to be very subjective on the mechanic/tester.

    My disk changes have been the result of a measurement with the correct gear, either end of life or warped (not sufferd cracked, yet). I have done an awful lot of miles since I passed my test.

    I trust my garage to deal with the pads as required but I can see them through the wheel and on the regular check I can see how much material is on them, contamination, state of disks etc. Same as checking the inside rims of tyres, you have to get down and dirty on a regular basis, same as checking fluids and air. Responsible car owners all do this right?
  • Remember that the mechanics at main dealers are on a bonus for upselling.
