  • Based on the number of complaints I've seen on here, I don't think they will be greatly missed.

    More information here https://travelweekly.co.uk/news/tour-operators/teletext-holidays-parent-leaves-the-travel-trust-association

Reading between the lines it sounds like Teletext (Truly Travel Ltd) were unable to renew their ATOL licence and therefore couldn't continue to sell package holidays.

As a member of the Travel Trust Association (who offer full financial protection) the TTA have transferred future package bookings via their own ATOL protected "TTA Travel" https://www.ttatravel.co.uk/ which seems to have been set up purely to take on Teletext's bookings. Also affects alpharooms who were part of the same group.

Seems to be a better outcome than just going bust and letting CAA/ATOL mop up the mess.

They were about to be taken to court by the CMA to force refunds to be paid .

I assume that they didn't have the money to refund so have gone down this route

I think this outcome was always a likely one given the circumstances.  I'm surprised it actually dragged on for this long.

Thankfully those with upcoming holidays appear protected - as do those who had ATOL/TTA protected package trips and had been awaiting refunds.

Those who booked hotel only via Alpharooms, or had past claims pending for not clear cut holiday cancellations, sadly might not be so fortunate.

I agree, surprised a few OTAs have managed to keep it all going so long given the many issues with Coronavirus and refunds.

It sounds like TTA have taken over your booking, and therefore your balance would be paid to them.

The High Court has given judgement in the case against the owner of Teletext Holidays and Alpha Rooms taken by the CMA in respect of their failure to refund customers. They have been found, not surprisingly, to have broken consumer law and the Chief Executive said

“This should be a wake-up call to any business that thinks that it doesn’t need to honour customers’ refund rights.

“Today’s ruling confirms the CMA’s view that Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms broke the law by not providing the refunds customers were due within 14 days for cancelled package holidays.

“While this ruling comes after these firms have been placed in liquidation, we hope the decision will make it easier for people to get their money back for a cancelled holiday in the future.

“Customers of Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms with outstanding refunds should get in touch with the Travel Trust Association.”

As we are now 4 months after the failure, hopefully, most have received their full refunds?
