Connect washing machine waste to larger diameter pipe

Hello! We have not long been in our new house and want to plumb in our new washing machine. We have this waste pipe from the sink behind where the washing machine goes that I think needs a connector of some description as the diameter is wider than the washing waste hose.
The printed marks on the pipe suggest it is 43mm.
What kind of adaptor do I need for this please?

The washing machine hose just sits in the wider pipe, like the grey pipe.
You have an open connection so water can escape rather than back fill the washing machine if there is a blockage in the main drain.0 -
Something like this would probably do the job : https://www.toolstation.com/mcalpine-straight-nozzle/p41802?searchstr=mcalpine-straight-nozzleAlthough, to be honest, it's not strictly necessary. As long as the waste pipe from the washing machine cannot "fall out" of the standpipe, it'll be fine. You might want to just secure it with a few wraps of gaffer tape to be doubly-sure, or else use a standard u-bracket to hold it in place.

Agree with above, you don't need anything more, it's designed to allow your washing machine waste to drop down into it. If you don't already have one then get hold of one of those drain hooks things to keep the hose in place.

As said above. There is also the chance, if you were to fit a hose spigot/nozzle as shown above, that the contents of the W/M could be 'syphoned' out due to the suction of waste water passing along that horizontal lower pipe from the sink(?). The loose fitting of the hose into that vertical pipe provides an air-break that prevents this.Your current setup is 'normal'. One concern, tho', is that there doesn't appear to be a U-bend that serves the W/M, so there's the chance of smells coming back up that waste pipe from wherever it disappears to out the LH side.Could you post a wider shot, please, to show it all?Fitting one of these: https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-washing-machine-trap-white-40mm/18640 (along with a second elbow to get the bottom pointing downwards again) would sort any smells.Or, if the sink's plumbing is nearby, there may be the ability to add a spigot on to there, to which the hose would just push on (and secured with a clip).Photo?

Ok makes sense, that's how we have it right now however last night I poured the washing up water down the sink and a small amount came out from under the washing machine so I was hoping to avoid that happening again...
We haven't trimmed the grey washing machine hose so potentially it was sitting too far down into the pipe and partially blocking where the sink waste joins that pipe?0 -

As mentioned, can we see a pic of that waste pipe as it exits the wall and how the sink waste is plumbed into it.0 -

like this but obviously the angle to the outside is behind the wood further along out of shot.

We understand that but can we see how your sink waste connects up into it? Is that coming from the pipe on the right of the pic?0
