Excessive meter reading

I monitor the electricity meter for the common parts of a house which has been converted to 5 flats.  It serves just two lights (the hallway whose light switches off after 2 minutes' use and an outside light which is on each night).

Over the years, it is fair to say that the average consumption is about 25kwH PER YEAR.

The last meter reading says that usage during September 2021 alone was over 2600 kwH.

The meter is a smart meter with LCD display.

I cannot think of any way that the usage increased so much.

Do Forumites have any ideas as to what might have caused this spike?

Many thanks
