Have you got the domestic currency rather than the internationally traded version?

I’m pretty sure that there’s only one paper version of the Yuan and that’s the domestic one (CNY). CNH is for specific reasons and only electronic as far as I am aware. It just wouldn’t make sense to have paper CNH notes.

I would noe be surprised if Lloyds do have permission to undo the transaction and remove the GBP from your account - somewhere in the small print.  They wrote the terms and conditions after all.
Collect the notes.  Then put in a calm complaint for needing the second journey rather than being told at the time they couldn't do it - but don't have high expectations!
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

    Yes and no.

Ultimately, the only course of action is complain and ask for additional costs incurred by their actions.

They aren't obligated to accept deposits but strictly speaking they have here and reneged on that acceptance.
They will likely take the position at all deposits are subject verification and can be reversed later.
Sounds like the cashier was uncomfortable in accepting the RMB and probably shouldn't have taken it.

However (depending on the reason for the decline) they may find that they are deemed a risky customer and got rid of.

    Perhaps the notes are counterfeit.
  • Perhaps the notes are counterfeit.
It has already been covered before, If that was the case the bank will not return it to the customer but are obliged to report it to the police and either hand it to the authority or destroy it.
