Lots of soft insurance checks that we didnt make?

My partner noticed on his Experian report today that around a week ago there were 6-7 checks for insurance quotes?
From looking at the names of the companies I cant work out if it was home or car insurance and who would have been requesting the checks?

AA
Royal & sun alliance
Chershire data systems
Insurance inititives
Liverpool Victoria General Insurance
Risk Lexis Nixis
ESURE
Aggregatoe/Broker quotation
UK insurance LTD
Grove & dean 

He was of course concerned that someone could be trying to take out an insurance policy in his name?

Hes not the most computer savvy so could this be a re-occurring thing from comparison sites? Would they conduct an annual re-check without asking?
If so how do i 'untick the box' to stop them doing this.

I think it's most likely a current insurance quote from a comparison site rather than a recurring one.
As a soft search, probably just an ID check, no one sees them other than you, although I understand you might not want them they don't affect anything. Personally I wouldn't worry about it..

Has he been to visit a Meerkat recently?  That's the most likely explanation (Most of those companies I recognise, they're legit insurance companies who offer all sorts - house, car, travel, pet, life insurance, you name it).  As above, soft checks are not really anything to worry about - they're not seen by anyone but you.

Do a comparison site search for home insurance, each year it then searches automatically to quote again. It's in their T&C's.
