connecting external speakers to a Sony Brava TV

Options
I have a pair of speakers I would like to attach to the TV, we are both deaf and the speakers would allow us to hear the TV better. There is a green jack and also a USB connecter on the speakers. I used to use them to hear things on my lap top with a set of headphones. Can I use them on the TV?

Most modern TVs no longer have 3.5mm audio output jacks .

    I suspect not

Would ideally need a make and model of both TV and speakers

If not that then photos of the connectors on both.

How do you connect the speakers to the laptop? Green 3.5mm jacks tend to be audio out. Are the speakers self powered by battery or mains or not?
  • Mmm.. the easiest ( and not too expensive option ) , would be for you to purchase a soundbar . If you have a headphone socket on your tv , then it'll work .

If you are going to try plugging your usb speakers into your tv, it probabky wouldn't work directly . However , you could try turning volume low on your tv and plugging one in directly and adjusting the input section on your tv

It's best if you list model no  of tv as mentioned , and maybe pics .

Fwiw , I have my tv plugged into my stereo ( speakers , speaker wire and amp )
The tv signal goes from my headphone socket on tv to the amplifier .
When I had a soundbar in my previous abode , I had a soundbar plugged in from my headphone socket on tv ..

This takes me back to the beginning of this century , where I had a huge toshiba tv which had speaker sockets in the back of tv and thankfully speakers supplied with it ..

Depending on how loud you want it and how much you want to spend ....

If the TV has a digital Audio out - usually an optical connection - get a "proper" HiFi system to add to the TV.

Go to Richer Sounds and find an amplifier with remote volume control and a digital audio input. Get a pair of "proper" speakers to go with it.

If the TV has analogue audio out, you won't need the digital input on the amp, and anything with remote volume control will do.

I've had this kind of setup for years, and wouldn't be without it.  If I wanted to replace the amp and speakers I use at current prices, I'd be spending around £1200 ...

What's the model number of the TV ?

As Googler above, I bought a small Denon hi-fi and Mission speakers from Richer for about £400, connected to the optical out of my Sony Bravia. A vast improvement on quality of sound and volume.

If you just want basic sound then there will be  free(freecycle) "proper" stuff about from people that have upgraded from Stereo through prologic to 5.1 then to x.x.x/Atmos.

got 3 sets in the garage and not got past 5.1 yet.

TV model NO. to work out what options you have from that

current speaker set to work out if there are suitable connections.

tv sets have gone through various iterations for sound out over the years and depending on the vintage it will drive the options.

Most common on newer sets is HDMI ARC(audio return channel)  many will also have digital(optical and/or coax)  mine(fairly new OLED) also has headphone.

If you just need more volume there will be relatively cheap options in compact form suitable for whatever the TV can output
