Applying to renew driving licence (expired and lost) and no passport

Hi everyone, a friend of mine needs to renew their driving licence, as they lost it before going into prison 4 years ago. They are now out, and they also have no passport (and are not really supposed to apply for one for the time being) to provide as evidence of their identity.
I have offered to help and look into what they can do, but I am struggling to get anywhere. Does anyone have experience of a similar situation?

You friend can apply online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-to-replace-a-driving-licence.

DVLA should be able to track down his record from his full name and DOB. Failing that, they may need previous addresses.

Thanks for the link. I've tried it to see if I can get anywhere (I am seeing him on Wednesday, so just want to check I can make progress before we sit down to do it together). I can't get past the address page, it doesn't recognise the postcode of the Approved Premises he is at for 3 months upon release. Knew it wouldn't be easy!

Have you tried Postcode Finder or checked with the Approved Premises - could be an incorrect digit.
