Parking ticket scam (Group nexus)

Can anyone help?

After parking for 25 minutes, I went to the pay station and entered the last 3 characters of my reg, as prompted. Then I was issued a receipt.

One week later I received a PCN letter from Group Nexus, stating that I had not paid for parking and would have to pay £70.

I replied showing proof of receipt and bank statement.

I then received an email acknowledging that I’d paid but inputted all 3 characters incorrectly (IMPOSSIBLE) and that I could pay a reduced fine of £20.

By the way, the receipt which was issued, does NOT display my registration number or the arrival time.

Any advice please?

It is not a fine, please read the newbies.  Did you admit to be the driver?  Have you complained to your MP?

IMHO you should pay the £20 or you will be sued for hundreds later on.  Highview and CP Plus are greedily litigious these days.

The above is only of course if PLAN A in the NEWBIES thread has not worked.  Don't ask what PLAN A is, please, this is why the NEWBIES thread exists and is pinned to the top of the forum.  Whilst it is to late to appeal properly, it is never too late to try PLAN A.  Go read the sticky thread.

If you'd appealed our way and not the way you did, you'd have paid nothing at all.

Okay thanks. So the fact that my registration number and the arrival time has been purposely omitted from my receipt has no bearing on this case at all?  Both of which would easily determine whether or not I inputted the correct registration number.

    Of course it does.
But you can expect the Claimant to say the reason there is nothing printed is because the motorist typed nothing.
Whether that's true or not... there is doubt... either way.

Having said that, why on earth do parking companies allow any ticket to be printed when either only a partial VRM is input or no VRM is input at all?
We all know the answer to that.
And as further expansion on that point... why do parking companies allow a mistyped VRM when they know that a vehicle of that registration hasn't been seen by ANPR and isn't even in the car park?

They're both rhetorical questions. It's all part of the scam that is Private Parking.

Thanks for the response. It would be impossible for them to now say that NO  registration number at all had been inputted, as they’ve actually stated which registration number WAS inputted and it’s nothing like my own. Would this make a difference?

At court, yes.  Otherwise no.  That's why it's less hassle to pay £20 and avoid all that.  You can't win at appeal but would have done if you'd come here in time not to talk about who the driver was.  Learn from this and come here first, next time.

Let us know what the landowner/retailer Management say when you complain.  That is the only way to rescue a case where the 100% win the keeper had, has been thrown away already.

  • Okay, cheers for your help.

I’ve only got until next Thursday before the 14 days are up, then I’ll have to pay more than £20. What if the retailer doesn’t get back to me in time? Should I give them a deadline to respond?

Of course, and not writing a snail mail letter.  Get in there  in person and hold the CS queue up and be heard by the Manager, not the CS staff (and DON'T hand over the original PCN if they say they 'will cancel it'  - they can have a copy - and you MUST then give them a short deadline and not the same day as your deadline).

I just thought; will a response from the retailer be enough? Will I also need confirmation from Group Nexus as well and If so, will that need to be before the 14 day deadline?
