PFP to BG horror hike help

Options
Lovely peeps, got moved over like many but have a couple of questions. I’m now on a fixed tariff until Apri, cannot speak or online chat to anyone at BG. Can I switch to a variable tariff to use the price cap as estimate is 1k per year more on this deal! Also lists payment by cash or card only and additional charges for not paying by DD but unable to set up. If when leaving PFP if the variable price cap is the best deal out there and is available surely OFGEM have acted irresponsibly switching customers to a deal that suits BG. Any help with how I can get out of this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How have you ended up on a fix? If you have been transferred over as part of the deal with PFP going bust then you should either have been put onto a variable OR they could I believe have chosen to match the fix you were on previously - assuming you were on one. Realistically no supplier is matching at the moment though with the wholesale prices having rocketed as they have.

Yes there is always an extra cost for paying by a means other than DD - so it would be in your interest to try to get that side of things sorted out.

The cap price is about the best you will get at the moment. Paying by DD may get you a discount with some suppliers. There are no exit fees from the cap price tariff.

You may perhaps have misunderstood the communication sent to you which states that the tariff you have been put on is fixed until April. This is, in fact, a variable tariff but when an SOLR takes a supply over, there is an agreement that the tariff will not be changed for six months.

As others have said, you're going to have to give us details of this fixed deal you're on - ideally the name of the tariff and the rates you're being charged - plus, ideally, your estimated annual consumption.
It's possible that you've been given a projection from BG of £2300/yr, and think the £1277 "price cap" is the maximum you can be charged. That isn't the case; it's the maximum for Ofgem's average consumer. How much it will cost you, personally, will depend on how much energy you use.

It clearly says Variable in there. As has already been stated, it is subject to the OFGEM cap and shouldn't change for 6 months, so you effectively have a 6 month fix.

As suggested above you may have mis-understood some of the communications.

You're on the "Price Promise April 2022" tariff which is the correct tariff for ex-PFP customers.  This is a variable tariff and is at the Ofgem price cap.  BG have said in some of their communications that it is fixed until April 2022 which is correct - because the the next Ofgem price cap review will come into effect in April 2022.

In terms of price differences for DD vs. cash/card this is generally correct for most tariffs which is why I think the BG website says it may cost more.  However when I looked up the tariff on British Gas Tariff Information - Energy - Gas & electricity quotes (britishgas.co.uk) - it gives the same costs for DD or cash so I don't think this will be an issue either.

The BG website did allow me to set up a DD the other day via my account so yours may do as well once it's all up and running.
