Apologies for not searching through posts but I have a serious eye problem at the moment making screen use very difficult.

I have been with British Gas for dual fuel. I have just been offered to choose Exclusive Energy Oct 2023v3 based on "We’ve estimated the annual costs based on your previous usage of 23921 kWh of gas and 3512 kWh of electricity a year." at a huge £2400!?

With so many smaller companies falling by the wayside, is this as good as I can get without risking a much smaller firm please? I'm based in West Oxfordshire.

I can't do much research as apart from my eyes, I'm looking after my wife who has had liver cancer surgery and my 102 year old mother....of yes, and sorting out my car which was vandalised a few nights ago!

TIA

Vigman

  • The advice currently is to do nothing and go on to a Standard Variable Rate tariff.

The majority of fixed tariffs at the moment are higher than the cap.

Just to add, that's quite a lot of energy for a domestic account.
At a capped variable rate of ~4p/kWh for gas, ~21p/kWh for electricity and ~£180/yr for combined SC, you're looking at £1875 pa.

Thank you so much. It's easy to presume a 'special rate' is going to be better than a standard rate!

Thank you. Unfortunately my wife had liver cancer earlier this year and we had the heating on for many months more than usual as, after surgery, she couldn't move at much and felt the cold.

Two years ago on an OVO deal, I think we were on £1,100 then a BG deal of c £1,600 and now this advised rate of £2,400 (hopefully £1,875 on standard as advised above)

Also a very drafty listed cottage is not easy to heat to even a basic level despite draft proofing doors (where possible) and getting secondary glazing. Although there are only two of us now, I won't turn the radiators off (gas boiler) in the attic rooms for fear of freezing pipes.
