Smelly Shoes

Hi there I have bought a pair of boots from Sports Direct that smell really badly of vomit, I haven't worn them because of it. Can I return them as faulty because of it? I am well aware they do not refund unless the item is faulty. Is being smelly a fault? I bought them instore and didn't really notice at the time, it's only since having them home, I can't even open the box 🤢 many thanks.

Probably not vomit but more likely the adhesives used in the manufacture or possibly just the packaging. As you purchased them in store then you'll need to check their T&Cs regarding returns. I don't imagine you should have much difficulty if they're unworn, but then again we are talking Sports Direct.

Try leaving them outside on a window sill (weather permitting) or in the garage or a shed for a few days and see if that helps.

Since you didnlt notice anything in the store perhaps it is the box/packaging that is smelling.

As above, such a smell can come from chemicals used in plastics (butyrates) and if these are new, may still be outgassing from their new condition.

But also some of the brown paper void-fill used in online deliveries has the same sort of unpleasant smell, and it doesn't seem to air out over time.
