    Presumably you will be looking at holding stamps worth £1,000s - if interest rates happen to climb you are left looking at selling at loss to get some of your money back to then invest at a good rate

    You would need to hold more than that to get any real return. Stamps are often sold below face value and after fees and secure postage could be sold at a big loss, I suspect to even make a couple of hundred pounds you would need to invest thousands and hold for at least a decade or two, so might as well invest in premium bonds or something. 

    I’m using stamps at the moment I bought from a private seller, I think I paid just over £160 about 4 years ago and at the time the mix of stamps from 2nd class letter through to 1st class large letter were worth nearly £200, so after fees and guaranteed postage selelr probably lost £100 on the deal. 

    I’ve also got several hundred pounds worth of picture stamps most in fancy presentation packs with a value showing, bought from auction houses and ebay, all for considerably less than face value.
