My partner got one in 2019 ... it is basic (it's basically a Renault Clio underneath) with low power engines. It seems that they've trimmed the available models now (Essential or Comfort) ... I think they used to offer 4 trims; we got the 2nd highest spec version back then but added a front arm rest. It also came with a plastic boot liner (as an unexpected - thus free - bonus). :) I think we paid ~£9,500 all in for the 1.0L non-turbo version..

It's been fine to live with and my partner gets on fine with it. It's not a car you want for regular long distance, motorway journeys, but if most of your trips are around town then the lack of grunt and top speed isn't noticeable.

Yes it would be just a town car. I believe the newer model is meant to be very good i tho it has a new design and on board computer and reverse cameras but I believe these cost extra take price over 11k. I compared it be new Corsa which is 17 grand which is a bit much.

Try Auto Express reviews online or other such sites.
  • I had one for a week as a loan car while our Renault was in for warranty repairs.

It’s the absolute definition of motoring at a price point. Everything is fine. It’s not a joy to drive, and it feels a bit sluggish and underpowered, but if you’re mostly town driving it does everything you want. I usually drive a Kia Sportage, the Renault is my wife’s car, and I ended up using the Sandero for a day where I did 200 miles for work - that wasn’t pleasant as it was mostly motorway. But if you want budget motoring and you’re not that fussed about performance, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. The one I was leant didn’t have a camera so I assume it was the base model, but I believe the mechanicals and underneath are pretty much identical no matter what trim level you get.

I quite like Dacia's honesty, they're not pretending to be anything other than cheap motoring.
Although, especially if you have a house with a drive, I'd suggest a used electric is the better answer these days.
As with most other petrol cars now, the Dacias are fitted with GPF and these will clog up with town running just like a DPF in a diesel.
It's no longer the case that a petrol is 'better' for town running than a diesel, unfortunately.

I would certainly have a look at the new Sandero Stepaway .
May find delivery is not until march 2022 though .

I have a new Dacia Duster 1 litre Bio Fuel  with Prestige trim .#
No shortage of grunt nor speed nor acceleration on any road including motorways .That includes the 66p a litre LPG .
    £16k on the road .
Niggles a few  performance no problem . Lack of cubby holes  , Door handle slightly blocks door pocket .
Would prefer slightly more visible buttons and dials

I wouldn't worry about the GPF or as Renault/Dacia call it the FAP.
All modern direct injection petrol engines have them fitted these days.

It's similar in design to a DPF but works totally differently to a DPF, in fact stop start town driving can actually help it regenerate.

Unlike a DPF there is no active regeneation element that requires the injection of fuel to create a hot enough enviroment to burn the particulates. The GPF traps particulates and burns them off when the exhaust gas temps rise due to running lean like when you take your foot off the throttle to slow down.

So everytime you take your foot off the gas pedal, the gas temps soar enough (between 400 and 700c) to cause the particulates to burn so they are constantly regenerating.

Also, even though direct injection engines can produce a little more particulate than a port injected engine, they produce far less particulates than even the cleanest diesel engine, so have to deal with much less particulate.

These filters have been pretty reliable but Ford did have a sensor/software fault on some models that caused a few owners some issue.

Studies have shown that GPF's actually get more efficient with use/age.
Several tests carried out show they seem get better after 20,000km and get upto 15% more efficent at removing PM after 160,000km (Artemis/AECC studies).

I've been running a mk 5 Clio TCe 130 with a filter for 18 months and mostly around central London without any issues.
As a bonus of the filter the car exhaust is far quieter which makes for a rather relaxed drive.

Yes you couldn't take it on the motorway. Only does maximum 98MPH.

Erm ... what's the speed limit on a motorway? 🤦‍♀️
