Tracking Number .. Royal Mail large letter

I have just wrapped up an item which I have sold and was happy to see that it would easily fit the 'large letter' size.

The item included free delivery.

Usually, I send using the small parcel size, which includes a tracking number, a couple of times I have had messages from buyers saying item hasn't been delivered, but when i check I can see that it has, in fact been delivered. I reply to this effect, then funnily enough hear no more .. I block these buyers.

Am I correct in assuming there is no tracking number with the large letter ?

I could just send as a small parcel (£3.20) or maybe 2nd class signed for .. or will this maybe annoy somebody if they miss the postman. value only £18

thanks !

I often send items using the large letter option when purchasing postage through ebay. it provides a tracking number but when I click on it it doesnt show any info apart from dispatched.
I have not had anything go missing while using this option
I have had the same as you buyers saying item has not arrived when tracking shows that it has, I also block and report them

There are tracking numbers for large letters if you buy the postage through ebay although the two i have done have never tracked as delivered

If you go to the PO you can of course ask for a certificate of posting there.
  • As long as you get proof of postage from the PO, you can claim compensation from them if the buyer claims it did not arrive, just as you would with a small parcel.

I didn't  know you could get a POP for large letters.

I want to send one of those new large "letterbox" boxes and would be much happier to get a POP than just hoping it gets there.

Do you enter the tracking number etc the same as you would if sending a small parcel?

As far as I know, when you post it at the PO and as long as it already doesn't have the full value of postage already on it (ie you pay them something) then you get a POP with a tracking reference on it in exactly the same was as for eg a small parcel.

If it is already fully stamped then you still get a POP but no reference number - which is pretty useless for eBay.

No you only get POP tracking number to confirm delivery with small & medium parcels, not large letters.

You can still get a Proof of Postage for Large Letter but it is just that, not tracking.

You can even get POP for letters, one of my adult sons sold off a lot of his old cards from various card collecting hobbies and they mostly went as a standard 66p letter- and he got POP for each and every one .

As above, they weren't tracked but in case of an INR claim he could at least claim back from RM.

You could also use signed for option which will get you your tracking number and will still be cheaper than small parcel postage price but obviously it's also more expensive than ordinary postage for large letter.
