iPod classic sent for repair has been 'lost' what do I do?

iPod classic needed a new battery so I have paid a company to do this (simple job). They have good online reviews. They confirmed the repair had been done ok and were sending it back via DPD - it has never arrived. The company said that DPD had received the parcel at their depot but that it was empty but untampered with (odd). DPD have apparently investigated and now saying it has been lost. I have asked for an immediate refund and compensation/replacement - note the contents of music are gone But with hard work I can probably retrieve via iTunes and other friend's generosity. BUT can I trust them - someone appears to have stolen my iPod. Do I demand police involvement, what can I get back from them financially - it cost £54.99 for the repair and was on credit card. ???? They have said they will ask their boss if they can get me a like for like replacement - what does that mean. So upset I feel part of my life has been erased! any advice gratefully received

That would be a second hand iPod Classic - which would equate to what they have lost.sianypoo said:iPod classic needed a new battery so I have paid a company to do this (simple job). Surely you just reload your iPod through iTunes and your music would be restored? Anything other than music you have purchased from Apple I presume would be music that has been illegally downloaded to iTunes and not really something you could claim compensation for?0

Not necessarily, but anyway I doubt anyone would cover for loss of data in this sort of circumstance ("I had millions of Bitcoins on that drive" etc).pulliptears said:Anything other than music you have purchased from Apple I presume would be music that has been illegally downloaded
Unfortunately just a lesson in the importance of backups.1 -
iTunes ok but the rest was cds I already owned! Yes should have backed it up but hey didn’t.0

Repairing electronics - data is not covered. They should replace the device - the contents are never covered.0

I need them to replace my iPod first !!!!!0

Check the cost of a used iPod on Ebay with the same spec and that's what you will be able to claim.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
The police won't be interested beyond possibly providing a crime number but I suspect even that would be something for either the repair company or DPD to initiate. Like for Like is precisely what it says, they will try to source an iPad Classic of similar age and condition to the one they repaired. Assuming they do provide a replacement, there will be no financial compensation as you will be in exactly the same position as if they had repaired and returned the original, apart from needing to spend some time on iTunes downloading and copying the CDs again. Incidentally, if by "friend's generosity" you mean making copies of their CDs for your use that is breaking copyright law.1

Which they have said they will do - the term 'like for like replacement' is pretty self explanatorysianypoo said:I need them to replace my iPod first !!!!!0
