Yes I saw it when I was there.

I will ask her. This is their first house and proving quite stressful for them!

Tried ringing her but she must be on the phone again to EDF

I do not know what a key meter is. All I know is they have a smart meter and they were told by E DF when they moved into the property that the account was a mess and it should not be on prepayment.

It was supposed to have all been sorted out a direct debit was set up and payment has been taken from it.
https://www.edfenergy.com/for-home/help-support/pay-as-you-go  this is the key info.  Would never have had any knowledge if my niece didn't use one to top up when I was out with her.   Not sure if this helps.

I would suggest she attempts to phone them again and say she is very fearful of the night and being in the dark.
A different tactic might get a different approach.  Play it calm - even though I would be wanting to swear too!  just try a calm and worried and concerned approach.

Thank you but it is not supposed to be on pre payment.

They have been using electric for over a month now without topping up so all this makes no sense.

You really think this would have all been discovered / sorted when first signing up at moving in time!

Make sure she does check the IHD so see can see if it is fixed, or at least get some advance warning of impeding doom next time...

It was supposed to have been sorted out over a month ago.

She spent the best part of the first two days getting it sorted and was told it was. They have also taken payment from the direct debit set up at the time.

At first EDF said they did not understand why it was pre payment and it was not supposed to be.(The property was empty for a few months as the previous owner had passed away so who knows what happened in that time.)

Customer service told her today that the department responsible for amending the meter had not yet done it or did not get the instruction.

But what I do not understand is why it has taken over a month for them to cut them again.

    Yes thank you I will.

She is busy at the moment as it is her partner's birthday and they have booked to go out.

I am going there tomorrow so I will take a look myself.

Wonder if the property being empty stopped EDF engineers from doing this before......glad it's on and fingers crossed it stays on.

With a smart meter the switch over is entirely remote.
