Appealing late payments to be removed from your credit file.

Hi all

How do you go about appealing late payment fees from your credit file? and will this cover all credit search agencies, or just specific ones?

In short, I set up a Direct Debit via a credit card company (Virgin Money), however they haven't set the Direct Debit up correctly (According to TSB, anyway), and haven't attempted to take payment from my bank account, even though the payment has debited, and then credited my credit card statement.

I don't really care who is to blame (Virgin is the most likely here!), I just do not want the late payment to show up on my credit score, especially when I am planning to apply for a mortgage next year (first time buyer).

What is the best way to go about removing this from my credit file, if will even show on there, as I've paid via debit card as soon as I got a notification that payment was missed.

Thanks for any help.

Seems like you're putting the cart before the horse a bit here.

If the money debited your account and credited your credit card account why are you worrying?  And why do TSB seem to think the DD wasn't set up correctly?  If it debited your account, it seems like it was set up correctly...

Surely it would make sense to ask Virgin Money, rather than us or TSB.
  • Sorry, the amount was shown to debit, and then credited my credit card statement. I've spent a good hour on the phone to both bank and Virgin.

My bank hasn't received any request from Virgin, nor has any transaction appeared on my bank statement.

I'm confused, and frustrated that I've done little incorrect here, yet I am the one suffering with charges and a potential late payment record on my credit file.

So you are saying that your Virgin credit card is showing as a credit payment being made then re-debited as the direct debit has effectively failed ?
Does your TSB account show a Virgin CC direct debit being set up ?
Does Virgin agree the sort code & account number for the DD ?
You need to raise a formal complaint with Virgin as they are the ones who should have set up the direct debit and then taken the money.
I would also, If there is a DD set up on your TSB account, raise a formal complaint with TSB that they are rejecting a valid DD payment request.  Whether they are or not is irrelevant as on a formal complaint footing it will go above the front line call handlers to someone who may actually be able to find out what is going on.

My fault, I realised there was a separate place for credit files (originally posted on credit card forum), I can't see how you can delete a topic, otherwise I would have done so.

I still don't understand what the problem is. You have a credit card which you set up to take payment for via direct debit. The direct debit was taken from TSB and credited to your Virgin credit card, all correct and as expected.
If that's what has happened then what is it you're unhappy with?  If that is not what happened, what did happen?

If you have an issue complain to Virgin politely stating what’s happened and see if they’ll remove it. If it’s a one off most likely they will (especially if it’s there fault). That’s all you can do really
