TSB are adamant that Virgin haven't tried to take the funds from my account, they have no record of it. Surely there'd be something on their system showing Virgin have requested payment?0

I know you have spoken to Virgin about the error, but given they have reversed the late payment fee themselves & you paid next day. There is a good chance it will never go onto your credit file.
But talk to them about it & if they say it will go on your file, then raise a complaint. Complaint team will look at it from a different point of view.Life in the slow lane0
