Currys PC World cancellation

Hello all, just wanted to know my rights.  Bought iphone from curry's as easily best price around.  Did order and then they cancelled as out of stock.  Checked my credit card and 2 amounts been taken (still pending at the moment) asked when refund would come through said 7-10 days.  This doesn't seem right to me, selling goods don't have/have no intention to supply take money and hold money for 7-10 days.

I have lodged complaint with Curry's but would advise everybody do not purchase iphone13 from Curry they haven't got any..

If they haven't taken the money (i.e. it is still pending), no refund is due as no money has yet been taken. The pending transactions may just never be taken.

7-10 days will be worst case scenario. When you pay by card they don't get the money until a couple of days after the transaction even though the money is showing as having left your account. Depending on their merchant services it may be end of business plus 3 business days before settlement hits their account.
  • All sorted now - no money taken thank you for your help and reassurance.  Panicked a bit, but still wouldn't use Curry's again..

Every other retailer uses the same system, if you want to avoid this you'll need to just pay cash for everything.

All retailers who use card payments will take payments the same way so not sure why you would avoid curry's for this reason?

There are many many reasons for not using Currys but this isn't one of them.

    PS no apostrophe
  • Are you aware that Currys terms and conditions allow them to unilaterally cancel an online order even after they have taken/ processed a credit card payment. ( How does that sit with basic contract law - Contract effected once  consideration accepted)

It's a contract term, agreed to by both parties. That is how contract law works.
