Sorry for the rant but this made me so angry.
Back in August we dropped my other halfs watch in to Ernest Jones for a new battery. I nearly fell over when they said it would cost £80. But OK. Back in about 4 weeks. 29/9/21 was it's due(ish) date.
We'll yesterday they sent him an email saying his watch was going to cost a whopping £348 as it needed a full service and a new second hand.
I was furious as you can imagine. Not only was it a whole month longer than the original collection date, this was the first contact we'd had with them.
I have since pointed out to my OH that he could have sent it to Timpson for a replacement battery for £40 (sealed and repressurised)
The email they sent to him wasn't signed by any particular member of staff. But it did come from the store.
We have responded asking for the watch back without any work being done, and have stated we will not be paying this new bill, as this is not what was agreed when he dropped it in.
I've looked for their terms and conditions online and on the back of the receipt but they don't have any info.
To say we're angry really is an understatement.
That was about to be an incredibly expensive watch battery! (In fact double our Xmas budget for the kids!!)
Sorry for the long ranty post. Please be aware if you use Ernest Jones to replace any batteries in your watches.

What brand of watch? Is the price a quote or a bill for work done as the post isn't clear.
Reads to me that they have quoted you £348, but you have decided not to have the work done, which is your right.
'You never own an expensive watch, you merely look after it for the next generation'.0
