  • Not sure what you are expecting here;
    He is convinced this company is worth paying tens of thousands of pounds to.
    You believe it is money down the drain.
    Most people here think it's money down the drain (over 10 years and I've never heard anything positive!).
    I guess there must be other mugs people like him who believe, or the company would not continue running the courses.
    You're not going to hear anything reassuring here.
    But equally I suspect you're not going to convince him not to carry on/pay more.
    I honestly had no rigid expectations from posting this, apologies if its frustrating.
     I was hoping it might help me figure out the conversation I'm dreading to have with him .

    Legally, I find it worrying that there's seemingly so little protection for people of the same mindset as my relative. He may be a mug but it's sickening to just sit by and watch someone who grew up with not much money, worked hard then handing it over to a scam company.
    I hope there is a cooling off period so that there could be a chance of getting his money back, he only gave them it a few days ago but who knows.

    You have probably heard the phrase those that can do it, do it, those that can't, teach.  If these people were actually capable of making so much money investing.., like millions, why make less money teaching others how to do it?  If they are doing it for free, believe the altruistic reasons they'll give.., if they are charging £10k, start making rude noises.

    But this man has done years in the business, he knows his trade, he knows other trades, why is he so lacking in confidence?  He has read the negative reviews.  You, I am sure have expressed your concerns.  At this point, I don't think there is much else you can say.  He's going to have to learn the hard way.

    Hi, unfortunately quite a few people fall for them. I renovate property and the knowledge is hard to get (you need to understand economy more than anything and it isn't taught in schools), builders to not understand markets. So, they play on peoples 'get rich quick' desire and their complete ignorance because they say things like 'tricks of the trade'. He has been done. At the end of the day just leave him to it, it is his life, not yours to worry about.

    I've spoken with a few people who've attended "get massively rich quick" conferences - on property development, share dealing, entrepreneurship etc.

    Some of the attendees really seem like they've been groomed or brainwashed.

    Unfortunately, it's often very difficult to persuade them that they're being scammed - because part of the conference content is to warn them that people will try to do that.

    In simple terms, the message is that:  if you pay them money, it will help you become super-rich. People who try to dissuade are just jealous  losers and you should keep away from them. You'll become rich and the jealous losers will just continue to be jealous losers.

    Sadly, I've seen some people who just get repeatedly scammed in this way - they lose money on the first scam, so go looking for another 'scheme' which will earn them enough money to make up their losses from the previous 'scheme(s)'.
