Hi,
I looking into setting up a small e-commerce site. Is there any reason to avoid registering a domain name with google? I have very little technical knowledge, but there seems to be no surprise extra costs. Do anyone know of any negatives.
For the website design I intend to use either square space or Wix.
Thank you in advance for any replies.

One advantage of using Google Domains is that if your domain costs for example £10 in the first year, it will cost £10 in subsequent years. Unlike most other registrars who up the price after the first year. Their prices are also competitive.
My experience is that I signed up for over a dozen domains (working for voluntary groups) through Google in 2006-2007. In those days Google were not themselves a registrar and didn't even deal in £ so each domain was registered through Google with established domain name registrars for USD10 per domain name per annum. Those domains are still in use and the cost has remained unchanged since.
Google became a registrar in 2015 and now that I am looking to register another domain, I will go with Google Domains. The only thing for you to check is whether they offer the specific top level domain you want (if for example you've set your heart on a regional TLD, .scot is not offered).3 -
